​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Acts and Regulations are the legislation of the Province of Alberta. Alberta King's Printer​ is the official publisher of the Government of Alberta's laws and provides up to date access to current legislation.

Key IMT and IMT-related legislation includes:

Electronic Transactions Act (Technology and Innovation)

  • provides legal recognition of information and records in electronic form
  • allows for the provincial government and the private sector to conduct business electronically based on consent of the parties
  • sets out conditions related to electronic signatures
  • permits electronic activities related to contracts

Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) (Service Alberta and Technology and Innovation)

  • provides a framework for public access to records, and for the protection of privacy

Records Manage​ment Regulation (Technology and Innovation)

  • defines terms and outlines the membership and roles of the Alberta Records Management Committee (ARMC)

Alberta Evidence Act (Justice)

  • provides rules on the admissibility of records in court proceedings

Government Emergency Management Regulation (Municipal Affairs)

  • defines the responsibilities of departments in emergency situations
  • requires the protection of all assets and records maintained by respective ministries

Government Organization Act (Executive Council)

  • Schedule 11, Section 14 of this Act identifies the government organizations that must comply with the records management program
  • provides for the enactment of regulations related to the program

Health Information Act (Health)

  • governs the collection, use and disclosure of health information; how health information must be handled and protected; and the right of the public to access health records in the custody or under control of health care providers

Historical Resources Act (Culture)

  • Section 9H of this Act identifies the responsibilities of the Provincial Archives of Alberta (PAA) for acquiring and preserving government records
  • identifies the PAA as the official repository for government records of enduring value

Office of Statistics and Information Act (Treasury Board and Finance)

  • governs the collection, compilation, analysis and publishing of statistics or other information relating to the commercial, industrial, financial, social, economic or other activities or conditions of Alberta
